The darkness in my heart will gather in might
and light will fade in the darking dawn of night
which shadows my heart darker still
and from my eyes no tears can spill
I wonder at others happiness
when all they seem to have is bliss
sadness is by far a better thing
then all this darkness which to me cling
Grief they say will soon disperse
And Grief they say will soon end
Grief they say is dealt with ease
Grief I say is a very real thing
But through this darkness gathering
I can see, a white ship beckoning
And in that ship some day I'll go
never, nay never will I sow
My grief upon the ground 'more
heaven will be open, the vale tore
and joy beyond all joy restored
that's the very hope I move toward
And though this darkness in my sleep
that hope and joy nearer me I keep
that with earth's dark passage done
I'll have finished this race I have begun.
